Resting on a mountainside in Denali National Park, this small herd of Dall Sheep sits in a circle to guard against bears, wolves, mountain lions and other predators. Both rams and ewes have curved horns, with rams' horns longer and more curved.
A cinnamon-colored black bear cub watches through foliage on a hillside, while its sibling looks for berries nearby. Most black bear cubs are born around January, and January's full moon is sometimes called the “bear moon.” Having different colored cubs in the same litter is not uncommon for black bears, who typically live 20-35 years in the wild.
