Savoring the sunshine, a yellow-bellied marmot surveys a meadow for both food and predators. Marmots weigh 6.5 to 8.5 pounds, live in rockpiles and hibernate during winter. They are highly social and use loud whistles to communicate with each other when alarmed.
Grizzly bears in the Rocky Mountains roam the wilderness searching for berries, roots, ground squirrels and other rodents to eat in order to fatten up for the long hibernation of winter. Grizzlies are large, nomadic and embody the very spirit of primeval wilderness.
