Nebraska Serengeti in Early Summer

Photographed in early June shortly after dawn, the North Loup River looks like the famous African Serengeti, minus lions, wildebeests, gazelles, zebras and buffalos. The name of the river means "wolf" in French, named by early French trappers after the Skidi band of the Pawnee, whose name means "Wolf People," and who lived along its banks. Note the deer in the lower channel of the river.

This autumn sunrise was stumbled on one morning purely by chance. The goal was to find a scene showing the Teton mountains lit by a golden morning sun, but a casual glance in the opposite direction revealed a different perspective worth a click.

Bear Lake in the Rockies

Oxbow Bend on the Snake River

One of the most photographed locations in Grand Teton National Park is Oxbow Bend with Mt. Moran in the distance. This peaceful spot overlooks a quiet backwater left by the Snake River when it cut a new southern channel. Taken on a cloudy autumn day, this image shows the golden aspen trees and fall foliage that make Oxbow Bend unique.

Moraine Valley in Rocky Mountain National Park

Glacial forces from thousands of years ago carved out Moraine Valley in RMNP, creating a flat plain with countless wildflowers and expansive views of the high peaks. Every fall large elk herds congregate in the food-rich meadows for their annual rut, a spectacular ritual where dominant bulls battle for mating rights.

This picture was taken early one morning in mid September, when the aspen trees were at their peak in brilliant shades of yellow, gold and red.
