Spectacular rock formations at Toadstool Geologic Park show the effects of water and wind over millions of years. Located in the extreme northwest corner of Nebraska, the park is sometimes called the Nebraska Badlands. Many unusual geologic formations are visible and the park has yielded some scientifically useful fossil deposits, some of which are still evident as "tracks" in the rocks.
Maroon Lake is an alpine lake perfectly positioned to reflect the image of the Maroon Bells peaks in Colorado. Photographers come to find different angles to photograph the lake, fly fishermen arching their lines upon its placid waters and hikers humbled by the panorama. Only a few miles away is Aspen, Colorado.
Located on the Roaring Fork River east of Aspen, Colorado, Grotto Falls is a unique five-tier waterfall that cascades into a pool of crystal-clear water amidst huge boulders. It’s part of a slot canyon, a rare sight in Colorado, that also includes ice caves in wintertime.
